Processing instruction "[xX][mM][lL]" not allowed

I finished building a new process flow that will transform 1 file into 6
separate files.
While testing the process flow Adeptia aborts the flow and shows the below
error message.
Any assistance you can provide with fixing/explaining this error would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

 

Error in execution for activity
XmlStream2StreamTransformer:tschmea_swapTrds:[Parser Exception at Xml to
Text Conversion org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The processing instruction
target matching ""[xX][mM][lL]"" is not allowed.]

  the XML generated from mapping that are passed to text schema are incorrect due to which this error is thrown.

  This can be due to the mapping implementation please make sure that the proper XML are generated from the Data Mapping.

  Thank you for the assistance.
  I was able to locate the issue in the mapping.
  Each time I saved it wouldn't remove the option to split the data from my
  first target schema.
