Difference between a reference and a dependence

When I open the process flow or ws provider dependencies, nothing is shown here. I expect the wsp at process flow and vice versa.

  The Process Flow can be dependent on other Process Flows but the activities that are used inside that Process Flow will come under "References" of that Process Flow not dependencies. On the other hand if a WS consumer/Provider is used in a Process flow then while viewing the Dependencies of WSConsumer/Provider you will be able to see the Process Flow in which it is used.
